Getting sick was not something that was going to happen to Midorima. His Oha-Asa ranking had been forth today, which wasn’t the best but was far from the worst the diamond ring on his finger (borrowed from his mother, after half an hour of what could only be called begging) served as his lucky item, and was doing its job well. Midorima tried to tell himself that it didn’t mean anything that his own stomach wasn’t feeling all that great – it certainly wasn’t a harbinger of things to come. Most concerning, one hand was lingering uneasily over his stomach. Takao would periodically swallow, as if trying to rid himself of a dry mouth.

It was obvious that the other boy was feeling off his skin had gone pale, and a sheen of sweat hung heavy on his brow. Midorima couldn’t help but be worried about Takao. The tallest player on the court was doing little more than standing still, watching with vague interest as Aomine, Kagami, and Kuroko struggled to pick up the pace for their team. This didn’t put his team at much of a disadvantage – where Murasakibara could generally be counted on to put some effort into basketball on a good day, that some had trickled into none at all. It was only a few minutes before Takao had to sit down, taking a spot on the bench along the sidelines. Aomine didn’t realize it at the time, but the Generation of Miracles were about to meet their match. Those words were the beginning of the end. No one had been surprised when Takao had shown up at Midorima’s side that day instead, Akashi had simply been sure to place the two of them on the same team. The words were Takao’s – it seemed that these days, wherever Midorima went the shorter point guard followed. Kise made an offended noise, as if the very notion was scandalizing the look on his face was so funny that Aomine almost didn’t hear the conversation going on behind him. “Don’t pout,” he remarked lowly, smirking at Kise’s put out expression. “Don’t wanna get frown lines, do you?” As his feet hit the ground again he was grinning, an expression that only grew when he saw the frown on Kise’s face. Running up alongside him, Kise made for a quick steal, but Aomine was able to dodge with a single jump he had slammed the basketball through the hoop. As soon as he had ahold of the ball he was moving, dribbling at a relentlessly powerful pace towards the other end of the court. “Aomine!” Kagami shouted out, and Aomine’s reflexes were quick enough to catch Kuroko’s pass out of midair. Aomine blinked up at him, finding himself at a loss for what to say – until the ball suddenly soared straight towards his head. Murasakibara blinked down at him, ordinarily disinterested expression having morphed to something a bit stranger. “… my stomach feels funny,” he remarked in an almost baffled voice. Murasakibara had literally let the ball just roll out of his hands and down the court while Kagami raced to reclaim it, Aomine couldn’t believe his teammate had just done something so unusual. “What’d you do, short-circut or something?” “Oi! What gives?” Jogging up to him, Aomine gave the towering center an incredulous look. This was a problem, because: one, Murasakibara was huge, and two, Murasakibara had the ball. They were about twenty minutes into the game when Murasakibara just stopped, suddenly standing still in the middle of the court.

You’ll wear out your sneakers.”Īnd just like that, Kagami found himself roped into playing basketball with the Generation of Miracles on what would be the worst day of his life. “No, Kagami-kun.” Kuroko levelled him with a chilly look.

“If I beg you nicely, will you let me go home?” Kagami honestly couldn’t wrap his head around the entire Akashi situation, and at this point he was a bit afraid to ask. “Akashi-kun doesn’t want to kill anyone now that he’s himself again,” Kuroko replied. I strongly dislike at least four of these people, and I’m pretty sure Akashi still wants to kill me.” “I don’t want to be here,” he remarked flatly as he was pretty much dragged along. All things considered it seemed like the worst day for the Generation of Miracles to meet up together for a game – but there was only one day that would suit all of their busy schedules, so that day was chosen, and it was on that blustery autumn afternoon that Kagami found himself being led to the basketball courts near his house by Kuroko. Kagami had been aware of the existence of all three of these things for a while now – the last one, mainly because it was flu season in Tokyo and it seemed like everyone was coming down with something. It all started with Murasakibara, a basketball game, and a stomach virus.
